Gary R. Hill, DO, FACOI
Gary R. Hill DO, FACOI, is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation , he moved to Detroit , Michigan where he did a osteopathic rotating internship at the renowned Detroit Osteopathic Hospital /Bi-County Community Hospital system in Detroit and Warren, Michigan. Upon completion of his internship, Dr. Hill completed a three-year internal medicine residency at that same institution where he became board certified in Internal Medicine and eventually a Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internist.
Following residency, Dr. Hill moved to Gadsden, Alabama to work as part of the Federally Qualified Community Health Centers (FQHC’s), National Health Service Corps program. This experience combined his clinical acumen and natural communication skills with his passion for administrative and organizational leadership. He worked for Etowah Quality of Life Council as its medical director, and , guided one of the largest community health centers in that state.
After a decade of collaborating within the Community Health Centers movement, Dr Hill joined Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine in 2002. While at NSU, he served in various leadership positions including Assistant Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. In the interim, Dr Hill completed two notable programs – granting him fellowship status in both the “Osteopathic Health Policy ” and “Steps towards Academic Research (STAR)” programs. During his tenure at NOVA, Dr. Hill founded the Internal Medicine residency program at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and later became Director of Medical Education (DME) at that same institution. He has served as principal investigator on the research related to novel medications for treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease .
In 2013, Dr. Gary Hill, joined VCOM (Edward Via Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine the Edward Via Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine), Auburn branch as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. After 3 years, Dr Hill would be instrumental in establishing the department for Multicultural Affairs and in 2016 became Associate Dean for “Multicultural Affairs and Inclusion”. In recognition of his efforts to further Osteopathic medicine, within Black and other minority groups Dr. Hill became one of the inaugural Co-chairs of the AACOM’s newly created council on “Diversity Equity and Inclusion.”
Dr Hill continues to participate in community, civic organizations, and events, which engage in health initiatives designed to address disparate education and health outcomes amongst marginal groups. He has been honored in “Who’s, who in Black South Florida” and nominated for the Student Life Achievement Awards at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine (NOVA-COM).
Dr. Hill speaks nationally on Health Disparities, and Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease among African Americans. His interest relates to health policies that address issues of access to medical care, disparities in health care, and medical prevention in vulnerable populations.
