Physical Health Services
OCOM acknowledges the various stressors that can arise in the medical school environment and the effect they may have on both personal well-being and professional development. In support of our students, OCOM is dedicated to offering Behavioral and Physical Health Services throughout their medical school journey.
OCOM encourages all students to establish primary care providers in the Orlando area.
For medical emergencies, students are encouraged to access appropriate care as warranted by their situation, including local urgent care facilities: emergency departments and emergency services. For a true emergency, students are asked to access EMS and the 911 dispatch system.
Students can also find additional information about their student health insurance benefits by visiting the Aetna Student Health Resource at aetnastudenthealth.com. Students with private health insurance must check with their insurance carrier for healthcare providers.
For students enrolled in the OCOM student health insurance plan, you may use Teladoc telehealth services. For students that are not enrolled in the OCOM student insurance plan, you may use telemedicine through MinuteClinic at various CVS locations services air any other urgent care locations in the area. To access these benefits, please go to aetnastudenthealth.com.
Students who have waivered out of the Aetna Student Health Services and have their insurance with private health insurance company, must check with their insurance carrier for healthcare providers.
Student Insurance
OCOM requires that all students maintain active health insurance coverage throughout all four years of medical school. Before registration and the beginning of each academic year, all students must provide proof of health insurance.
All OCOM students are automatically enrolled and charged for the OCOM student plan unless a waiver with insurance coverage that meets all requirements set forth by OCOM is submitted by your waiver deadline. To ensure that students have access to a comprehensive, reasonably priced health plan, OCOM offers a student insurance plan through Aetna Student Health, a PPO plan with nationwide coverage for in-network and out-of-network providers.
HSA Consulting, Inc. (HSAC) is the group administrator for the student health plan and will verify the waiver information to ensure all students are currently and remain compliant with OCOM's health insurance requirements. All information submitted is confidential and utilized for verification of health insurance only. You will receive e-mails from HSAC from this point forward, so please review the information they provide. As the group administrator, HSAC will assist students with plan questions, address changes, claim assistance, and obtain ID cards. Their team is available by phone or e-mail.
