Student Organizations

Student organizations are an essential part of student life at OCOM. Medical student organizations serve a vital role in the lives of medical students and allow for local and national-level participation within the medical community.

Students can be actively involved in at least one organization, and some can be members of several. OCOM students may serve as officers or committee members at the state, regional, or national level. The goals of student organizations are related to the Mission of OCOM and the osteopathic profession.

Student organizations or groups that would like to host an event at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine must complete the OCOM Special Events Request form. The request must be submitted 30 (thirty) days prior to the proposed event and submitted to the Office of Student Affairs.

OCOM Student Organizations Handbook

The Student Organization Handbook is designed to help OCOM students navigate student organization policies and procedures. Please use this handbook as a resource when planning programs and when conducting general organization business. OCOM Student Organizations must follow the guidelines set forth in the OCOM Student Organizations handbook and the Organization's bylaws. Each organization must have a set of approved bylaws on file in the Office of Student Affairs.

Student Advocate Association

OCOM is establishing a SAA chapter.

The Student Advocates Association is a non-profit organization comprised of the spouses, significant others, family, and friends of Osteopathic Medical students. As a group, SAA provides services to the students as they face the challenges of medical school and services to the community while promoting the osteopathic profession. SAA also provides support and friendship to each other and encourages participation in social activities.

To learn more about SAA and how to get involved, please get in touch with studentaffairs@ocom.org

OCOM Student Government Association

All enrolled OCOM students are members of the Student Government Association (SGA). SGA is the representative governing body of the OCOM student body. This association welcomes proposals and participation from the entire student body. The Student Government leadership serves as a voice for all students.

The responsibilities of Student Government include:

  • To provide all students with unparalleled experiences of learning and development beyond the classroom.

  • Collecting and expressing student opinion acting as a liaison for the student body.

  • Making lasting impacts in Central Florida, national, and global communities.

  • Supporting student organizations, campus events, and/or class activities.

  • Improve the quality of life for all students at OCOM.

The Office of Student Affairs serves as the liaison between the administration and Student Government.
