Explore Loan Options

Before You Apply

OCOM students using private educational loans should understand the basic requirements and compare available loan options before beginning the application process.

01 — ELIGIBILITY

Be Admitted or Enrolled

To be eligible for private or alternative loan funds, students must be admitted or enrolled at OCOM and meet the lender's eligibility requirements.

02 — COMPARE

Review Your Options

Compare loan types, interest rates, origination fees, repayment terms, conditions and other lender requirements before borrowing.

03 — APPLY

Apply With Your Lender

Students initiate the private loan application electronically through the lender of their choice. OCOM then reviews eligibility and certifies approved loans.

Understanding Private Student Loans

OCOM partners with private student loan products that offer health professions loans for medical students. Private student loans are non-federal educational loans available through various national lending institutions.

Loan applications open annually for the next academic year on or around March 1. Because private loans are funded and administered by individual lenders, each lender establishes its own terms and conditions.

Compare before you borrow. OCOM strongly encourages students to educate themselves about the advantages and disadvantages of private student loans and carefully compare available options.

Repayment & Forgiveness Programs

Depending on your career path and service commitments, you may have opportunities to receive assistance with qualifying educational loan debt.

National Health Service Corps

The NHSC offers loan repayment options for primary care providers who work at approved community sites.

Indian Health Service

The IHS Loan Repayment Program offers qualified health professionals an opportunity to repay student loans while serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Military Health Professions

Some branches of the U.S. military offer Health Professions Loan Repayment Programs. Terms and conditions vary by branch.

National Institutes of Health

NIH loan repayment programs support health professionals pursuing qualifying biomedical, behavioral, social and clinical research careers.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Prior federal student loans may qualify for PSLF. OCOM does not currently offer federal student loans that would qualify for the program.

Important: Eligibility varies by program. Loan repayment and forgiveness programs have their own eligibility requirements, service obligations and application processes. Students should review the current requirements directly with each program.
