Chair for Osteopathic Principles and Practices

Darren C. McAuley DO MMEL FAOASM is the founding Chair for the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practices.

He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry- School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford New Jersey in 2002. He subsequently completed a rotating internship within the UMDNJ system at Christ hospital in Jersey City New Jersey and his residency in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manual medicine at Plainview hospital in Plainview New York. Seeking an expanded musculoskeletal approach Dr. McAuley further developed his skill set by completing a sports medicine fellowship In Reading Pennsylvania in 2007.

In his first position after medical training he joined the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Assistant Professor of OMM and became actively engaged in teaching first and second year students in both didactic and practical settings. While in Philadelphia, Dr. McAuley served as an OMT consultant and sports medicine physician for the Philadelphia Phillies and US Rowing.

He became a fellow in the esteemed American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine in 2012 and in 2013 he completed his Master’s Degree in Medical Education and Leadership from the University of New England- College of Osteopathic medicine. The same year he successfully attained board certification in pain medicine and has continued his education attaining board certification in addiction medicine in November of 2023.

Concurrent to his time practicing medicine as a civilian Dr. McAuley joined the Delaware Air National Guard as a Medical Service Corps officer in 2000. Over 24 years of military service Dr. McAuley has served in the role of flight surgeon and participated in 6 deployments including two to Baghdad Iraq. He Currently is assigned as the State Air Surgeon for the State of Florida and is stationed at Air National Guard headquarters in St. Augustine. In this role he functions as the chief medical authority for over 2000 airmen throughout the state. Most recently he returned from Prince Sultan Air Base Saudi Arabia in February of 2024.
