Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital Gifts Medical Equipment to OCOM
Orlando, FL – July 24, 2025 – The Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) is proud to announce a generous gift from Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, including a hospital bed and various expired medical equipment and materials. This donation will significantly enhance student learning and training through OCOM’s Simulation Skills and Clinical Skills courses.
These items—while no longer in use at the hospital—remain highly valuable for educational purposes. OCOM plans to integrate the donated equipment into student-focused programming, providing future physicians with hands-on exposure to the tools and techniques used in real clinical environments. In addition to core coursework, many of OCOM’s student-led organizations will utilize these materials as adjunct teaching resources, particularly for specialty-specific training opportunities.
“This donation from Orlando Health is far beyond what we expected and is deeply appreciated,” said Dr. Robert Hasty, Dean and Chief Academic Officer of OCOM. “It represents a shared commitment to advancing medical education and addressing the future of healthcare in Central Florida. We’re grateful for Orlando Health’s continued partnership and support of our students.”
Dr. Leila Keeler, Director of Simulation at OCOM, also expressed enthusiasm about the impact on students. “These contributions make an enormous difference in the educational experience. Having access to real-world equipment allows our students to gain familiarity and confidence before they step into clinical settings. It’s an incredible way to bring learning to life.”
OCOM is honored by this gift and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Orlando Health in the shared mission of preparing the next generation of compassionate, practice-ready physicians.
