Alexandra Franco Garcia, MD
Faculty Organization Chair
Alexandra Franco Garcia, MD, MHA, is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. She is the current Faculty Organization Chair for the 2025-2026 year. She teaches Microbiology and Endocrinology here at the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM). She is also the lead for the Case-Based Learning (CBL) thread in the OCOM preclinical curriculum. Her dedication to fostering self-directed learning in every aspect of the curriculum is apparent through her work with planning and developing the systems courses curriculum as a Founding Faculty Member. She is passionate about teaching students to develop critical thinking skills regardless of specialty.
Outside of OCOM, she has three other main focuses: 1) she owns a busy telemedicine specialty practice where she delivers inpatient and outpatient Infectious Disease consultations to vulnerable individuals in underserved communities in FL, CA, OH, AR, and VA; 2) She designed and is currently pioneering the implementation of the first Hepatitis C screening and treatment program for incarcerated individuals in Florida. She partnered up with the Department of Corrections in Orange and Osceola counties to detect and treat Hepatitis C within the jail system; 3) She is the Director of Clinical Innovation & Infectious Disease at Great Prince William Health Centers, a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers in Virginia. In this leadership role, she focuses on developing and implementing innovative solutions/processes to improve healthcare delivery, quality, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency. She has a reputation for dedicating her career to caring for the most vulnerable and underserved communities through the eye of Public Health.
She has been the recipient of multiple awards during her internship and residency, and is the most recent recipient of the OCOM Outstanding Leadership award 2024. She is also an active member of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). In May 2025, she was also appointed as a National Faculty member for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).
Dr. Franco Garcia is proud of her Hispanic heritage. She was born and raised in Colombia, where she graduated as an MD from the Universidad Libre Cali. She has lived in the United States since 2011, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, and her fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she focused her training on immunocompromised hosts. She holds a Master's of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from the University of Southern California (USC) and, most recently, graduated from a certificate program in Medical Education from Harvard Medical School. In her free time, she enjoys dining out, running, cycling, camping, and dancing with her husband, as well as taking her children to Disney World.
