April Smith-Gonzalez, DO, MPH
April Smith-Gonzalez, DO, MPH is Board Certified in Family Medicine and OMM and is the current Faculty Organization Chair for the 2024-2025 year. She teaches Osteopathic Principles and Practice and Case Based Learning here at the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM). Her dedication to integration of Osteopathic Principles into every aspect of the curriculum is apparent through her work with planning and developing the curriculum here as a Founding Faculty Member. She is passionate about teaching students where and how to apply Osteopathic Manipulation regardless of specialty.
Outside of OCOM, she owns and runs Osteopathic Family Wellness Center, a busy and successful Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative practice in Orlando. Her practice has a reputation for caring and compassionate osteopathic primary care, and has grown to a four provider practice since its opening in 2012.
She is past president of Florida Academy of Osteopathy and received the Margaret Ratha Award in 2024 for service to the Academy. Currently, she is active in leadership with the Osteopathic Cranial Academy as a member of their Board of Directors. She also now teaches outside of OCOM for the Osteopathic Cranial Academy in their hybrid Intro to Osteopathy in the Cranial Field course. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Osteopathy and the American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Smith-Gonzalez is a graduate of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, and holds her Masters of Public Health from the University of South Florida. She completed her residency at Florida Hospital East Orlando, now Advent Health East Orlando.
