OCOM Welcomes 144 New Student Doctors at Its Second White Coat Ceremony

The Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) celebrated a major milestone with its second White Coat Ceremony, held at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando, FL. The event honored 144 student doctors from the Class of 2029, officially marking their entry into the medical profession.

The ceremony opened with remarks from Dean and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Robert T. Hasty, and featured a keynote address from Dr. Rick Workman, a nationally recognized healthcare leader and philanthropist.

The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition that began in 1993 at Columbia University and has since become a rite of passage for medical students across the country. It symbolizes the beginning of a student’s journey into medicine and their commitment to compassionate, ethical patient care.

“Having gone through this same rite of passage myself, I know firsthand how significant this moment is,” said Dr. Hasty. “This milestone represents not only the dedication of our students, but also the promising future of healthcare. I could not be prouder to see these student doctors embark on this journey, and I look forward to the impact they will make in the lives of patients and communities.”

With the addition of the Class of 2029, OCOM now has over 230 students enrolled. As the newest medical school in Central Florida, OCOM is committed to educating and training caring, competent physicians who will serve for generations to come.
