OCOM Marks History with Time Capsule Celebration
Orlando, FL – January 22, 2025 – The Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) made history with a special Time Capsule Celebration that will forever be remembered as a milestone in the institution’s journey. This unique event brought together faculty, staff, and students to honor OCOM’s early days and celebrate the vision of its founding members.
The ceremony showcased the heart and spirit of the OCOM community as meaningful artifacts, documents, and mementos were carefully selected and contributed to the time capsule. Each item reflected a piece of OCOM’s story, from its founding mission to foster compassionate, innovative medical professionals to the milestones achieved during its inaugural year.
The time capsule, sealed with care and anticipation, was ceremoniously buried on campus in a designated location that will serve as a historical landmark. In his remarks, Dr. Robert T. Hasty, Dean of OCOM, highlighted the importance of the occasion: “This time capsule is more than a collection of items. It’s a testament to the dreams, aspirations, and dedication of everyone who has been a part of OCOM’s journey. Today, we not only honor our past but also inspire the future.”
The event also included heartfelt reflections from faculty and staff organization leaders and Class of 2028 Student Leadership, who shared inspiring messages that underscored the collaborative spirit and dedication driving OCOM forward. A commemorative plaque marks the location of the time capsule, with the inscription inviting future generations to uncover its contents in the year 2050.
The anticipation surrounding this symbolic unveiling in 25 years is already palpable. As OCOM continues to grow and evolve, the time capsule will remain a tangible reminder of its humble beginnings and the collective effort to establish a lasting legacy in medical education.
“This celebration is a moment of pride and inspiration for all of us,” said Class of 2028 Vice President, Student Doctor Ledio Gjunkshi, who contributed a personal memento. “I’m honored to know that a piece of our story will be shared with future OCOM leaders.”
The event concluded with a sense of community and excitement for what lies ahead. Faculty, staff, and students gathered for refreshments and shared hopes for the future, planting seeds of inspiration for the OCOM community of tomorrow.
Mark your calendars for 2050, when this treasured piece of history will be unearthed, providing the next generation of OCOM leaders a glimpse into the roots of their institution. The Time Capsule Celebration is a reminder that every moment of today shapes the future, and OCOM’s journey is only just beginning.
