At OCOM, we value and appreciate your support in shaping the next generation of physicians by guiding and mentoring our third- and fourth-year students during their clinical training. Your commitment is essential to their growth and success.

Become a Preceptor

You may find us in:

  • Physicians that serve as Clinical Faculty/Preceptors support third- and fourth-year clinical training by:

    • Serving as mentors who assist students in applying knowledge and building skills to problem-solve patient care.

    • Allowing students to participate in patient management to a degree appropriate for their level of training.

    • Providing written and verbal feedback to students in a constructive and timely manner.

    • Completing the written evaluation of the student’s performance and discussing it with the student on the last day of their rotation.

  • In order to serve as an OCOM preceptor, physicians must meet the following criteria:

    • Applying for a physician Faculty/Preceptor Appointment.

    • Earned and maintain Board Certification in a specialty area.

    • Received and maintain clinical licensure in the state of practice

    • Meet clinical faculty credentialing standards established by the Academic Appointment and Promotions Committee.

  • Benefits of Joining OCOM as a Preceptor include:

    • Receive an OCOM Clinical Faculty appointment, including a frameable certificate and appointment letter for display.

    • Gain additional recognition for precepting and service to OCOM.

    • Complementary online access to the OCOM library resources.

    • Continuing Medical Education (CME) for precepting students.

    • Earn additional CME through live and computer-based faculty development

    • Stipend for precepting students.
